This scenic route offers a gentle, varied walk along the River Arun, weaving through woodland and suburban edges with a few minor undulations. Starting at Christ’s Hospital Station, the path quickly immerses you in nature, with an abundance of fungi dotting the trail—some strikingly colourful, others tucked into mossy banks and tree stumps.

A highlight is the man-made waterfall, a charming feature nestled near recent residential development. It adds a tranquil soundscape and marks the transition from rural to urban fringe. The nearby housing expansion blends modern design with green corridors, though the contrast with the older landscape is noticeable.

Passing Tower Hill, you encounter a rise named after a former semaphore tower that once stood here, part of the Admiralty’s 19th-century communication network. It’s a subtle nod to the area’s layered history, now mostly hidden beneath trees and brambles.

The walk concludes in Horsham, a town with Saxon roots and a name thought to derive from “Horse Ham”—a settlement where horses were kept. Today, it’s a vibrant hub with a mix of heritage architecture and modern amenities, offering a satisfying end to a walk that blends natural beauty, historical intrigue, and evolving landscapes.
